I have had a WAG160N Wireless router for around 6 months and in the last week the connection has been extremely spikey. While running in cmd "ping www.google.com" the spikes are quite apparent. A lot of the time it is 45-60ms but then it spikes to 1000 or more. I have tried on 3 different laptops in the house and the same issue with each of them. I tried using a wired connection and the problem is eliminated so im assuming it has something to do with the wireless.
