need to nat without nat protocol unify router > cisco 2960S

Alright so.... I'm struggling a bit here and trying to see if I have any options before we just need to get rid of the 2960s and get a new router....

We have a unify router with internet access providing a LAN subnet of 172.16.46.0/24.

I have a 2960s assigned to 172.16.46.149 and its able to reach the internet just fine.

the problem I'm facing now is that there is no 'nat' capabilities in the router and no 'routing' options either it seems. google says I should be able to enable routing with the 'ip routing' command but this shows as an invalid command - google then suggests using the 'sdm prefer lanbase-routing' command, which also shows as an invalid command....

Do I have any valid options here?

Hello @kermitsfrog0 ,

>> WS-C2960S-24TS-L = LAN Base

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-2960-s-series-switches/data_sheet_c78-726680.html?dtid=osscdc000283

as already suggested you can add a router to provide routing and NAT and you can use the Catalyst 2960S a L2 access switch

Hope to help

Giuseppe

This is in reference to the 2960s in case it wasn't clear.

Hello @kermitsfrog0 ,

use show version

if you device is a Catalyst 2960 there is no NAT capabilities on it

depending on the model ip routing can be enabled witth the command ip routing .

post show version to get better help .

if it is a LAN base model it might be limited to L2 switch features

Hope to help

Giuseppe

crap. alright, off to get an ISR instead... thank you Giuseppe.

Hello
I the 2960s is a layer2 switch it has no routing capabilities and no NAT function, so if you require both features on a single device then a rtr would be applicable and you could still use the2960s as a access-layer device for end users connectivity
