noob ethernet port IP assignment question

I'm not good at ISO or routing so forgive me...

I have a 2811 with dual T1's and two available ethernet ports. I want to assign one to our LAN (the port the firewall plugs into) and one for a computer that sits out by itself for a customer. I have a range of IP's with a /26 subnet. I want to give fe0/0 and fe0/1 IP's from that range. I have no problem assigning one port, but when I try to assign another IP from that range to the other port I get a message saying that this IP is in the range that is on the other port. How do I assign this IP to the second port?

Hi,

IN general, you cannot assign the same subnet to more than one port on a router. What you can do is to split the /26 into two /27s and assign a unique /27 to each interface. For example, if your subnet is 10.1.1.64/26, you can split it up into 10.1.1.64/27 and 10.1.1.96/27 ...
