OSPF router ID

a router configured with an OSPF router ID, but its IP address still reflects the physical
interface. Which action can be taken to correct the problem in the least disruptive way? and why?

Reloading the OSPF process or

Specifying a loopback address

Re: OSPF router ID

Hi @eslam.farag ,

Check this answer of the community to other discussion:

Once a DR has been elected, It cannot be substituted by another router with even an higher opsf priority ..etc, This can only be changed by manually forcing the clearing of the opsf process ( clear ip ospf process), or a reload or the interface disconnects

Re: OSPF router ID

Hello,

is this an exam question ?

If you configure a loopback interface, and that loopback has the highest IP address, OSPF will chose that as router ID, provided you do NOT have a router-id specified. If you DO have a router-ID specified, then whether or not you have a loopback configured, and whether or not you clear the OSPF process, the router-ID will stay the same. If you want the router-ID to be the IP address of the loopback interface, you need to CHANGE the router-ID manually.

Does that make sense ?

Re: OSPF router ID

Are you talking about the OSPF router ID, or the OSPF priority ?

Hello,

sorry for the confusion...what has OSPF priority to do with your questIon then ? Or better yet, can you rephrase what you want to know ?

Re: OSPF router ID

Thank you mr.Georg Pauwen,

(1) by configuring a router ID:
should the ip address reflect the (RID) or
the (physical address) regardless it's value? if that question is right.

(2) supposedly, the ip address is reflecting the physical address despite configuring the router with ID.
which action can i take to make the ip address reflects the (RID)?

thank you again mr. Georg Pauwen
i really appreciate your help.
