Dear community,
I'm trying to factory reset an old Cisco 2600 Router. To no avail. There is a password on the console port. Attempted methods so far:
* Accessing Rommon through console port. Break command has no effect (Putty Menu special command, CTRL-Break, CTRL-C and other combinations have no effect)
* I removed the flash drive: IOS load & loading of start config to run config progress just the same on reboot.
* No reset/mode or any other possible reset button can be spotted on or in the device.
Anyone able to offer some advice? Completely stomped here.
Thanks.

I have had some success with a different method of getting into rommon.
1) power down the router
2) in putty configure the speed of the console connection to 300
3) in putty connect to the router console
4) power up the router
5) wait a little while
6) disconnect the putty session
7) in putty configure the speed of the console connection to normal speed
8) in putty connect to the router console
Hopefully you would be in rommon. Many routers interpret the very slow signal on the console as a break. Try this and let us know if it works.

Right click on the top right of the putty window and send a break command that way vs using your keyboard, that may rule out some unknowns.
I will try to get a screen shot and attach for you.

maybe try below steps :
Connect PC with a console cable to the router - power down the device and power and follow the break sequence.
CTRL-C does work (not some times) break the boot operation
but by sending a BREAK (for example, from putty menu, Special Command --> Break) does work,

I cracked it today. Richard put me on the right track.
Final solution: Speed 300 baud as suggested. Reboot and press spacebar 10-15 seconds to enter rommon. Close and re-open session at 9600 baud and presto!
Thanks to all responders.
