I am trying to setup a Wake On Lan machine in my home network.

If I am home and send a wol packet to the broadcast address then my computer wakes up... However I am at work and send the wol packet to my router I need my router to port forward that packet to the broadcast address... UDP...

However my linksys wrt600N won't let me set the port forward from port 9 to 9 onto ip address 192.168.1.255.. It says I need to enter something between 1 and 254...

How can I port forward to a broadcast address? Is there a reason I shouldn't?

most likely this is blocked to prevent a smurf attack (accidental or otherwise) or you to be a amplifier in a attack or something similar.

what you can do is to use a machine locally on that network that you have the wake on lan software on and to remotely access it.

I do not know if this is good enough solution for you. there are several other ways of doing it but they all include buying hardware at a not so small cost.

dd-wrt has a WOL client built in and will work on a WRT600N.
