QOS Policy on WAN Interfaces with speed difference

On a MPLS network when the physical interface speed is higher (100 Mb) and subscribed CIR is lower (50Mb) what qos settings need to be configured on Routers.

Is Traffic shaping configured in inbound or outbound direction or both?

Does it need to be implemented at all sites where speed mismatch occur?

What is difference between shaping and hierarcy qos and is both used together in such scenario?

Is there an example with explanation on commands and how to find shaping value?

Hello,

Shaping is configured in output direction only and sense also.

and good idea to go for shaping where there is speed mismatch so excess of traffic will be buffered in output queue.

In addition you can go with shaping along with hirerchical map

Ex:

policy-map TEST1

class EF

Bandwidth percent 50

class AF12

Bandwidth percent 50

policy-map PARENT

class class-default

shape average 256000

service-policy TEST1

Regards

Mahesh
