This seems to be a simple situation, but I'm having some trouble with, as NX-OS is somewhat new to me.
Two Nexus 5K switches connected with a direct link, and VLAN 99 is the only VLAN configured on that link (dot1q trunk). I'm trying to peer the two switches using RIPv2, but just don't see they like each other. Configuration is simple:
(on both switches):
router rip test
address-family ipv4 unicast
maximum-paths 4
(on N5K-1):
interface Vlan99
no shutdown
description VLAN 99
no ip redirects
ip address 172.25.182.253/24
ip router rip test
interface loopback0
ip address 10.82.82.1/24
ip router rip test
ip rip passive-interface
N5K-1# sh ip rip
Process Name "rip-test" VRF "default"
RIP port 520, multicast-group 224.0.0.9
Admin-distance: 120
Updates every 30 sec, expire in 180 sec
Collect garbage in 120 sec
Default-metric: 1
Max-paths: 4
Process is up and running
Interfaces supported by ipv4 RIP :
Vlan99
loopback0
(on N5K-2):
interface Vlan99
no shutdown
description VLAN 99
no ip redirects
ip address 172.25.182.254/24
ip router rip test
interface loopback0
ip address 10.84.84.1/24
ip router rip test
ip rip passive-interface
N5K-2# sh ip rip
Process Name "rip-test" VRF "default"
RIP port 520, multicast-group 224.0.0.9
Admin-distance: 120
Updates every 30 sec, expire in 180 sec
Collect garbage in 120 sec
Default-metric: 1
Max-paths: 4
Process is up and running
Interfaces supported by ipv4 RIP :
Vlan99
loopback0
--------
Confirmed the two switches can ping each other on VLAN 99:
PING 172.25.182.254 (172.25.182.254): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 172.25.182.254: icmp_seq=0 ttl=254 time=2.998 ms
64 bytes from 172.25.182.254: icmp_seq=1 ttl=254 time=4.908 ms
64 bytes from 172.25.182.254: icmp_seq=2 ttl=254 time=15.944 ms
64 bytes from 172.25.182.254: icmp_seq=3 ttl=254 time=2.877 ms
64 bytes from 172.25.182.254: icmp_seq=4 ttl=254 time=4.973 ms
---------
But I don't see they become RIP neighbors:
N5K-2# sh ip rip nei
Process Name "rip-test" VRF "default"
RIP Neighbor Information (number of neighbors = 0)
('dead' means more than 300 seconds ago)
Running a debug, I confirmed that both are sending RIP updates to 224.0.0.9.
Any help would be appreciated. It may be something small, or maybe there is restriction on multicast/mgmt plane on the Nexus platform?
Also, there doesn't seem to be an option to configure unicast RIP neighbors on the Nexus. Thanks.

So they are sending updates on VLAN 99, but the updates are not accepted. I tested by adding a Catalyst switch to a different VLAN, and pair with switch 1. It still didn't work until I manually configure "neighor <IP address>" under the Catalyst switch's RIP process. So it appears to be something related to multicast on the Nexus?
BTW, these Nexus switches have LAN base licenses only "LAN_BASE_SERVICES_PKG". But it did allow me to enable and configure RIP.
Thanks.
