Hi all,
My network has a 3745 router as the gateway for all the Voice and Data traffic to pass through.Hence all the E1's are terminated on this router.Last night I had this issue of my router passing on traffic intermittently due to which all users were affected. The interfaces showed up and up status and i could even see traffic pass on through.I reloaded the router and everything was fine. But Im not able to get it clear as to why did this happen.Cud it be due to shortage of cpu or memory on the router to handle the traffic efficiently.Wud appreciate anybody's ideas to help me in my findings as to the root-cause of the problem

It could definitely be that the CPU is overloaded for a reason. The best thing to do is to try to get console access to the router when it hangs and see if you can capture a "show proc cpu sorted". This should tell you first if the router is completely hung and also what process is using most of the CPU resources at the time the router hangs.
Hope this helps,

Hey thanks..
Furst things Furst.I could telnet to the router at that time and watch the interfaces sending traffic. But ping to the next Hop wud fail.so the router was not a complete hang.Only it was not passing on traffic. Moreover I jst dont want this nasty thing to happen again.I havent burdened my router with any ACL's.Just few Policy-Maps for voice priortization and no Routing Protocol. At any point of time my router doesnt switch more than 5 Mb traffic. So im still not able to bite the CPU overload slice.

Finding if the the CPU is heavily used at the moment the router stops forwarding and identifying the process monopolizing the CPU are key to resolving the issue.
Hope this helps,
