Connect the laptop to the media converter.  Is the link UP?

## YES the link is getting UP when i connect the LAPTOP to MEDIA CONVERTER##

What kind of ethernet cable is used to connect the router and media converter, is it a cross-over cable or a straight-through cable?

most mediaconverters are NOT auto speed auto duplex!
remember: negotiation will fail if one side is fixed and other auto
Cisco recommends fixed / fixed or auto / auto
=> set speed and duplex fixed both on router and on laptop

Hello @sarathyravan01 ,

in addition to the notes about speed and duplex settings you need to verify if you have a smart enough converter that if the fiber port is down or not connected it keeps down also the RJ45  port.

In that case what you see is normal and once you finish the cabling of the fiber port the RJ45 port should come up.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Problem might also be related to MDI vs. MDI-X RJ45 ports.  (I.e. whether straight though vs cross-over cable is needed.)

Normally, I recall, a host would not work with a router port, unless you use a cross-over cable, or the host, or the router can do auto MDI/MDI-X.

When you use your media connection, I have no idea what it expects for pin connections and whether it too supports auto MDI/MDI-X.

I will note, on Cisco devices that support auto MDI/MDI-X, they usually, if not always, require auto mode be enabled for the auto MDI/MDI-X to function too.

Also BTW, as noted by others, for port speed and duplex, either both sides should manually match, or both sides should be in auto mode, the latter should work correct for any equipment built this century.

If one side is auto and the other is manually set, the auto side should match speed, but it will assume half duplex (without confirmation the other side can support full duplex).  If the other side is manually set for half duplex, link should still come up, with the duplex mismatch, but transfer rate will be horrible.

Hello @sarathyravan01,

Do you check duplex mode between media converter and router port ?

Some media converters may require specific configurations.
