Routing Traffic through Switch

Would like to know if we can route traffic through switch based on IP request, need to forward wan (intranet) and internet request to their perspective devices

current setup, we have a router that is forwarding the traffic, so wondering if we can remove the router and handle the forwarding through switch

wan traffic is forwarded to a router and internet traffic is forwarded to firewall based on the IP request

thanks in advance

The answer to your question depends on the type of switch that you are using. Some switches are layer 3 capable. And those switches are capable for forwarding traffic based on the IP destination address and would do what you want. Other switches are capable of only layer 2 forwarding and are not capable of doing what you want. So what kind of switch are you wanting to use?

Thanks a lot, Richard. I am planing to use a layer 3 Switch, probably a 3850-48T-S

will this one able to do it

Hi
If your planning on using L3 functions on the particular switch you will need an ipbase or ipservices license , it only comes default with lanbase layer 2 functions , that switch is able to do full layer 3 with correct licensing

Hi,

Did you check all enabled feature on your router? as VPN, NATing, etc. If there is a normal routing with dynamic or static route then you need layer 3 switches as all said. If you are terminating VPN/NATing etc then there is a difficulty that mentioned switch will not support required features.
