Send flat vlan across L3 interface or router?

Hi,

I'm curious if there is a way to transmit a vlan that has no gateway across a network via ip interface interconnects or a router?

Thank you

The vlan needs to leave a router and connect to another routed network.

Router do this task right ? when the packet Leave the L3 network ?

if we missed here, explain more of use case here.

the only issue here being that the vlan itself wont have a gateway on it to be routed if that helps

I am not clear what environment you are describing. But if I take things literally it would seem to be some broadcast domain, on some media, that has no device to forward traffic out of that broadcast domain. If that is correct then I do not see any way to transmit to anything remote.

If that understanding is not quite correct, one of the typical solutions would be L2TPv3. The suggestion to use source route transparent bridging is an interesting suggestion. But since that depends on Token Ring technologies it would not seem feasible.

Richard,

I have another question. The router as one end of my problem lets me setup an l2tpv3/pseudo-wire setup no problem. But at the other end of this scenario is a cisco 9500. It has commands for pseudo-wire but the only encapsulation it will do is mpls. The router can do mpls encapsulation as well but im not sure if thats a usable option for me? Any thoughts sir?

I am not an expert in 9500 and if someone in the community who does have this expertise would jump in that would be good.

Does the 9500 have other commands related to L2TPv3? You could give it a try but I am concerned that the differences in functionality between your router and the 9500 are great enough that it may not work.
