Hello guys,
I am trying to configure a shdsl module but I don't get to up the Atms interfaces created. I think is a wire problem because I see the following message when the show controller shdsl command.

Hello Oscar and Patrizio,
it can be a cabling problem.
this SHDSL controller uses 4 wires out of or 8 wires.
so pairs 0,1 makes the first SHSDL link
pairs 2, 3
shdsl 4-wire mode enhanced
So actually if the external connector is an RJ-45 all 8 wires are to be used.
So check the cable you are using:
If you have an NT I should try to use an RJ-45 straigh cable (like a LAN cable)
if you have multiple NTs you may need to build a custom cable.
a reference doc is

Hello Giuseppe,
i'm using a cable built this way :

Hello Patrizio,
you are configuring two HDSL each of them uses two pairs = 2+2 four wires (four wires mode means this)
so you need to use all 8 wires in a RJ-45 cable.
How to connect the 8 wires is the next step
may be you need to start from the specifications for RJ-45
for example
http://www.zytrax.com/tech/layer_1/cables/tech_lan.htm#100s
Hope to help
Giuseppe

Hi Giuseppe and Patrizio
First of all, thank you in advance for your help.
I have checked the pin-out cable and it is correct. For Patrizio; I have tried mine to configure without shdsl 4-wire but this wasn't working.
It is curious but if I connect the ISP routers those work fine, so the ISP line is OK too. I can't get access to those routers for checking the configuration. The ISP routers are both two Telindus 1421.

Hi Giuseppe,
i'm configuring one HDSL 4-wire 4mb with one group , two pair that use 2 wire = 4 wire so I need to use only 4 wires of a RJ-45 cable.
Regarding the schematic it didnt come out right but i can tell you that I'm using also Cisco cable 37-0860-01, the pinout is exactly as Figure 5 Standard RJ-45 Connector to Two Standard RJ-11 Connectors of document :
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/access/interfaces/software/feature/guide/shdslfm.html , of wich i'm using only one of the two RJ11 marked Ports 0,1 on the cable .
I've been doing cable for years when nodoby knew how to do a cross-cable , i came up with a cross baseT1000 when cisco cables crossed only 4 pairs and the others where straight.
(The first cross-cable i've done where with green cap , the second version all green including the cable , this is why now near all crossed cable sold are green.)
Maybe we cannot use the HWIC-4SHDSL with 4 wire and must use the HWIC-2SHDSL ?
Thanks,
Patrizio

Hi Giuseppe and Oscar,
just to let you know Telecom Italia is the provider of the BitStream line . This morning their technician come to test the line with an Aethra AC2037 , the line its OK and he told me that the Italtel DSLAM to wich we are connected does not care if the line are swapped , in fact he tried one way or the other with the AC2037 .
Also i received a WIC-1SHDSL-V3 , hereunder are the test with the same line i'm trying to make it work with the HWIC-4SHDSL .

Hello Patrizio,
good news you have found a cabling setup that works and you have reported here.
we can say that with 6 wires you can use only a single 4wire group (this is easy to say) but you have found how to connect with tests.
Best Regards
Giuseppe

Hello Giuseppe,
in fact what i've found it that the HWIC-4SHDSL is unable to work with 1 dsl-pair group or 4 wires , it need all the 8 wires to sync even if your line its 4 wire . For this purpose i've used the original cisco cable CAB-RJ45-2RJ11 p/n 37-0860-01 using both RJ11 and attach them to a RJ11 Doubler http://www.run-it-direct.co.uk/images/RJ11Doubler.jpg .
Of course this should be not the normal way for the HWIC to work , there is something wrong with it , in fact i've also a TAC case pending , i hope the will open an escalation for the bug because the line its flapping every 50 minute .
Please note this

Hello Giuseppe and Oscar,
just to keep updated , with the latest version of IOS c1841-ipbasek9-mz.124-22.T.bin now the board seems to work as it should be , using only 4 wire with the original cisco cable that came with the board , and with the
configuration stated on the manual .

The only problem is that sometime the line freeze in the up state and you cannot ping the atm inferface , and sometime the ping latency goes up to ten times the normal expected value , say form 8/12msec to 120/200msec .
Thanks and Best Regards,
Patrizio

Dear All,
I have the same problem with 8Mbps IMA (Telecom Italia) with a Cisco 2911 with this card: EHWIC-4SHDSL-EA.
Controller is UP but SHDSL wire-pair 0,1,2,3 is DOWN.
I've tried various cabling without success.
Can someone help me?
Thanks

Dear Salvatore,
did you try different IOS version ?
Sometime with Telecom Italia some version do not work , and sometime also some adsl/hdsl router do not work .
