when there are only 4 x 10G port and 24 x 1G port,

should peer-link of VPC and virtual-link of VSS use fastest port  one 10G , two 10G  or just normal speed port 2 x 1G channel group?

Hello @Maivoko,

This choice between using one 10G, two 10G ports, or two 1G ports for the peer-link depends on your specific network requirements, redundancy needs, and future growth expectations. Using two 10G ports for the peer-link is generally a good practice for larger networks or scenarios where you want to ensure both redundancy and capacity. However, for smaller networks with less traffic, a single 10G port or two 1G ports may suffice, keeping costs and resource utilization in mind.

sacrifice 2 x 10G originally for uplink been peer link when only 2 x 10G left for uplink , is it worth to do that? do peer link require huge bandwidth ? is data traffic going through peer link all the time?

@Maivoko,

The bandwidth requirement for the peer link largely depends on your network's scale and traffic patterns. The peer link doesn't typically carry a significant amount of data traffic, as it primarily handles control plane traffic. However, if you have a large number of VLANs or a very dynamic MAC address table, the control plane traffic may increase. The required bandwidth will also depend on any additional features and protocols in use.

You should consider the total available uplink bandwidth and how critical it is for your data traffic. If sacrificing 2 x 10G ports for the peer link leaves you with insufficient bandwidth for your data traffic, it might not be advisable. Ensure that the remaining bandwidth can handle your data traffic requirements, including redundancy.

Regarding your design, bandwidth, trafic capacity, adpate the Switch model also in terms of uplinks etc..
