SNMP version differences

Hi all,

There is a high number of SNMP traps with following statements:

  • snmp-server group default v3 priv
  • snmp-server community TEST ro SNMP-sdt-ACL
  • snmp-server host 10.10.5.5 version 2c TEST
  • snmp-server host 10.10.20.20 version 3 priv Guest_Wifi

#sh run | i Guest_Wifi ------>There is no any output from the current configuration

.....

1-) Any one can explain about what reason could  be using for "group default v3 prix"  as there is no any relative Guest_Wifi statement(s) in configuration? And is this human error?

2-) What is priv in version 3? For what can it be used for?

3-) As there is  snmp-server group default v3 prix, why  there is a version 2c in statement of the snmp-server host 10.10.5.5? And which one has override?

Thanks for your replies...

==>> this is no account, this is an snmp-community name

==>> SNMPv3 can be used with different methods AUTH, PRIV, AUTHPRIV
AUTH means an account must be used, PRIV means traffic is encrypted, you can guess the last one....
only PRIV means no account is used, only a snmp-community (traffic is encrypted

3-) As there is  snmp-server group default v3 prix, why  there is a version 2c in statement of the snmp-server host 10.10.5.5? And which one has override?
=== > this depends which server tries to acces the device

  • snmp-server with IP 10.10.5.5     can access this device using SNMPv2c with snmp-community TEST
  • snmp-server with IP 10.10.20.20 can access this device using SNMPv3 encrypted priv with snmp-community Guest_Wifi
