Strange input queue drop, high latency and icmp packet drops

Hi,

A MetroE connection to upstream. MUX and Routers at both end are hardcoded 100Mbps/Full-duplex.

Noticed intermittent high latency when ping both ways and icmp packet drops (only getting 98%) and this happens 24x7 during high or very-low link utilization - also file transfer is slow. "show interface" of the router interface connected to MUX shows an accumulating "input queue drops".

A technician perform loopback test MUX-to-MUX, found NO ERROR. When upstream plug their router to MUX and laptop is use to plug to the MUX in other end (hardcoded 100Mbps/Full-duplex), the problem still exist.

Now technician want to replace the MUX.

Has anyone experience the same and is it a MUX problem? Any input?

Hope it is Ethernet drop from the mux directly! What is the end to end circuit speed??

Did u tried connecting laptop on both side with auto option ??

Hi,

Circuit speed is 20Mbps. It is standard practice that MetroE MUX is hardcoded 100Mbps/Full-duplex, therefore devices that connects to it should be hardcoded to 100Mbps/Full-duplex as well.

As mentioned after MUX-to-MUX loopback test, laptop is tried in B-End as the A-End (upstream) is plug back to the router.

The error is nothing to do with speed and duplex problem (i.e. collissions, input errors, output errors, crc, etc) - the error is only "input queue drops" as shown

Hi,

Is your link directly terminated on router (G703) card or via modem.This type of issue occoured due to modem or V.35 cable and when erthing problem in media through which you connecting mux and router.Can u provide me sh int ,traceroute and ping response.

A-End is provider whle B-End is subscriber

Hi,

check the earthing [through multimeter(not more then 5v)]and crimping between subscriber router to first mux through which connected with hard loop.

Please rate the solution.
