Traceroute result is having non-existing BGP AS number

All,

I know this might be strange, or might be an IOS behavior, but I need an explanation if you have one.

On  my PE router, I have a BGP with one of our customers, which is  advertising two prefixes. Now whenever I traceroute to one of IPs  belongings to his prefix, traceroute result of the first hop shows me  the next hop (customer's serial IP address) as expected BUT with bogus  AS number, or to be specific, an AS number of my upstream provider which  is on a remote PE.

I  know it's conflicting, but again, the traceroute result is correct,  however the reported BGP AS between the brackets are just .. bogus!

Is there any explanation for this?
