traceroutes showing originating IP

Ernesto Borges

When I do trace routes to this nexus switch, it lists at the end the originating IP, no matter from what other router or switch I am using to do the traceroute.  This is an example:

Ash-Core-SW1#trace 10.240.103.254

Type escape sequence to abort.

Tracing the route to 10.240.103.254

VRF info: (vrf in name/id, vrf out name/id)

  1 10.1.10.253 0 msec 0 msec 8 msec

  2 10.1.1.253 0 msec 0 msec 0 msec

  3 10.1.7.1 8 msec 9 msec 0 msec

  4 10.202.1.50 50 msec 59 msec 50 msec

5 10.1.10.254 50 msec 58 msec 51 msec --> this is the interface originating the trace

Ash-Core-SW1#sh ip int bri

Interface              IP-Address      OK? Method Status  Protocol

GigabitEthernet1/0/22  10.1.10.254     YES NVRAM    up       up

Any help is highly appreciated

Thank you

There seems some looping issue, Can you please show us the full traceroute report?

Sheshu.

VRF info: (vrf in name/id, vrf out name/id)
1 10.1.10.253 0 msec 0 msec 0 msec
2 10.1.1.253 0 msec 17 msec 9 msec
3 10.1.7.1 0 msec 8 msec 0 msec

Hi,

Your second traceroute is different from the first one, please compare 5th hop in both.

In first, it is

5 10.1.10.254 50 msec 58 msec 51 msec --> this is the interface originating the trace

In second, it is

5 192.168.1.254 59 msec 50 msec 50 msec

Second trace is what it should be and looks correct, did anything change?

Sheshu.

Hello, no, I just used a different source IP for the trace
