Hi Experts,
I have read an tried just about everything regarding CPU utilisation... I can't for the life of me figure out why the interrupt driven CPU usage is so high.
At around 6Mbps of VoIP traffic, the router is 100% CPU and it start dropping packets all over the place.
there is no logging in the access-list (there is only one inbound access list).
Using QoS or not, doesn't seem to make a difference
All route-caching features are ON. (CEF, Flow, Policy, Fast)
Yet the minimum CPU utilisation I have seen is 25%/25%... On average it's 40% during the day, but once traffic picks up to around 6000 packets per second, the router is gone...
I have a 50/50 Mbps connection, but I can use only 6 for VoIP ?
I hope somebody can help me.

Indeed upgrading to 12.4.24 did not help at all...

Because the CPU is doing Hardware handling.
(50%/50% ) cpu has 50 % load and this goes the interupts.

Upgrading the IOS would be the first step I would look at and then check the cpu etc.

Hi,
Im sorry to say that upgrading the ios on the box probably won't help you much.
I have also tried a 2811 for voice and it pretty much maxed out the cpu at around 5mbit/s of voice.
Upgraded to the 2921 instead, now running about 11mbit/s voice traffic with a cpu load of around 25%, it's really quite silly how much cpu is consumed by routing/nat:ing voip traffic.

Indeed, upgrading to 12.4.24 did not help at all... I get some more processor output, but performance does not seem to be improved...
Anything I can improve on the performance until I get my new router? (I am looking at 2921 or 2951)
I already removed the nbar recovery and Qos (I figure I do not need that with plenty of bandwidth to go)
also removing ip verify unicast reverse-path gives a about 8% less CPU load...

Have ip flow on a single interface, not both.
Disable "virtual-reassembly".
