I could use a little help understanding something about the Supervisor Engine module that comes with the Cisco Cat 4507R-E. While I understand the amplified use of adding other functions such as security apps, etc I am just wondering why are there 2 Sup-E modules on the switch. What can be done with this and how is it best utilized.
I am sorry if this is a rookie question, but I am a rookie and this is the first time I have even heard of this device. From what I read it is amazing though and I can't wait to work with it.

Using two supervisors on a 4507R (or 4510R) is optional. The second supervisor is installed for redundancy. I.e. if the primary supervisor fails, functioning continues with the second supervisor.

Thanks for your reply. I figured as much but just wanted to be sure. Seeing this for the first time is a bit puzzling, lol
