two routable interfaces to switch-unable to ping or telnet switch

I have a 4506 catalyst switch with no ip address

the cdp neighbor info is as follows (all neighbors in the 119 subnet /24 mask)

CAT11#sh cdp neigh det

Device ID: router1
Entry address(es):
  IP address: 192.168.119.241
Platform: Cisco 3825,  Capabilities: Router Switch IGMP

Device ID: CAT3
Entry address(es):
Platform: cisco WS-C4006,  Capabilities: Router Switch IGMP

Device ID: router2
Entry address(es):
  IP address: 192.168.119.246
  IP address: 192.168.120.1
Platform: Cisco 3845,  Capabilities: Router Switch IG MP

Device ID: MR1consoleacess
Entry address(es):
  IP address: 192.168.119.250
Platform: cisco 2620,  Capabilities: Router

I am trying to configure remote access on the switcch

I give vlan 1 ip address of 192.168.119.150 /24

cdp information is passed to the other router neighbors...but I can not ping or even telnet to them

even from device 192.168.119.1 (hsrp vip address of the first cdp neigbor listed)

i do a show ip route and get this

CAT11sh ip route
Codes: C - connected, S - static, R - RIP, M - mobile, B - BGP
       D - EIGRP, EX - EIGRP external, O - OSPF, IA - OSPF inter area
       N1 - OSPF NSSA external type 1, N2 - OSPF NSSA external type 2
       E1 - OSPF external type 1, E2 - OSPF external type 2
       i - IS-IS, su - IS-IS summary, L1 - IS-IS level-1, L2 - IS-IS level-2
       ia - IS-IS inter area, * - candidate default, U - per-user static route
       o - ODR, P - periodic downloaded static route

Gateway of last resort is not set

C    192.168.119.0/24 is directly connected, Vlan1
CAT11#

is the fact that there are multiple routable interfaces in the .119 subnet an issue?

VLAN Name
---- ------------------
1    default
94   Workstation_Net
119  Server_Net
1002 fddi-default
1003 token-ring-default
1004 fddinet-default
1005 trnet-default

I have even tried giving vlan 119 an ip address and no luck

Hi,

Is the vlan in up up position?

can you issue this command:

sh ip int bri vla 1

Also, did you add on interface to VLAN 1? because without on interface the VLAN will not come up.

You should not use VLAN 1 for your inband managment or for user data.

From either of the devices connected to CAT11 can you do a sh cdp neigh detail and see what the other devices see?

Is this the only device in this subnet you cannot telnet to or ping?

I assume that this /24 is being used for management only?

yep...i can see the cat11 switch and its IP  when i do a sh cdp neigh det from th other two devices

there are other devices on the subnet and I can ping and telnet to them from the gateway and from other subnets

..this is a /24 subnet...but we also have hosts on that subnet with no issues--not just management

pls show me the whole infomations of show vlan and show cdp nei detail  and show arp on this 4506.

if other cdp neighbors are in different vlans, you surely cannot ping them.

most of the ports linking to other device are in vlan 119

but you have configured ip address on vlan 1, and this lead the poor result.

hmm it worked

that doesnt make sense..considering we have mangement networks in other areas..where the vlan 1 ip subnet  for management is different

from subenets and vlans that other devices are connected to the switch

and i added the ip default-gw address to switch cat11..but i was unable to

telnet to it from a different subnet..

I tried both routable interfaces that are listed in the cd neighbor of the switch..FW and XR1
