I'm unable to do traceroute, ping works. why is that? using ospf protocol, devices are connected using trunk ports so neighborship is eshtablished using SVI (not L-3 ports). how to fix it?

no ip redirects
no ip unreachables
no ip proxy-arp
no mop enabled

traceroute will not work for example throw gre tunnel

shouldn't traceroute work by default?

trace route is a layer 3 troubleshooting tool if its going across layer 2 trunks its not going to pick anything up , it sounds like you have layer 3 wrapped in layer 2 so trace wont see that as ip is encapsulated

could someone advise how to fix this traceroute issue?

Hi,

what is not working exactly?

Are you trying to traceroute to a Cisco device which has got "no ip unreachables" configured on an L3 interface? It will not reply then.

Or are you trying to traceroute over L2?

You could use

switch#trace mac ?
H.H.H      48-bit hardware address of source
interface  Interface on which this source mac exists
  ip         Specify ip addresses

command then.

Best regards,

Milan
