I am currently running an E1 from a branch office to our HQ using a VWIC2-2MFT-T1/E1 card at one end and a VWIC2-1MFT-T1/E1 at the other. I am considering upgrading to 4Mb, can these cards handle this data rate and if so what is their maximum data rate?
Thanks
Graeme

E1 is 2 mbps - fixed.
If you upgrade to 4 mbps using E1, the SP will provide a second circuit and you will need 2 interfaces more.

Hello Graeme,
E1 is limited to 32 timeslots 64 kbps each, it can be used unframed or framed.
There are other serial interfaces that can have an higher bit rate but not if they are based on E1 standard
see

you should deploy two E1 links with multilink PPP for example if this is your hardware.
Hope to help
