I am looking at upgrading the IOS on a 7206VXR with an NPE-G1 Processing Engine. I am running into issue determining the apropriate IOS to run. I'm basically looking for the equivilent of the old mainline not T code, just IP base, stable but not really needing any special featuresets.
15.x IOS is really confusing me. Whenver I choose a 15.x version it prompts me for either "Software on Chassis" or NPE-G2.
So the first question is, am I correct in choosing the "Software on Chassis" option for the NPE-G1?
My second question would be, what is the difference between the 15.x M&T and the 15.x M Code?
And finally, would you recomend going with 15.0 or 15.1 IOS?
I am running BGP (with full internet routes) on this 7206VXR, and have 1 GB DRAM and 256 MB's of flash available.
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim

Please enter the command ip bgp-community new-format under the global config.

It depends on the features you are after in term of software and hardware.
I personally like to go with a software release that has some shelf life (6 months at least) but if you have hardware requirements for the new release, you have no choice.
Feel free to review the Release Notes for 15.0 and 15.1

Thanks for the info. I decided to upgrade to 15.0(1)M6. All went well, other than one thing. I'm noticing my BGP communities are not listed right in my config. For example:
If I put: set community 2828:1507 in my under a route map,
it changes in my show run to:
set community 185337108
I'm not sure if it is scrambling my actual config or just hiding my set community strings. Have you seen this in 15.0?
