WLC C9800 Lost connection with "no ip routing"

Hi,

I've noticed a (at least for me) strange behaviour on an WLC C9800, which appear to me both, the vmware appliance and on a C9115AX-I .

Since I don't need any routing functionality I've decided to disable routing on the device. Afterwards there is no more way to communicate with the controller, no icmp or ssh. The arp cache is completely empty.

My ip configuration looks like this

ip default-gateway 10.10.0.1

GigabitEthernet 1

ip address 10.10.0.71 255.255.255.128

no switchport

negotiation auto

no mop enabled

no mop sysid

I've already tried different ip route configurations and putting the adress a SVI via vlan on this interface (which should not make a difference). It's interesting, that sh ip route does not show any direct-connected subnet.

I've tried IOS XE17.09.04a and 17.06.06a so I am missing something it seem's?

Technically This is WLC not a Layer 2 Switch, so i belive routing should be available ? Not sure why you think there is no routing required ?

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Well, I don't need a L2-switch either, I need a controller appliance. I don't get, why I need IP routing for this. Especially, because there is a switch in GUI mode to disable ip routing - what's the intention of this, if I cannot get any management communication via ip afterwards?
