Hello

Can somebody explain cisco sdwan and umbrella integration. What is confusing me is licensing. I do have SDWAN Umbrella Provision Cloud Essentials license. Do I need something else or this is enough for branches to use basic umbrella web security?

Can someone explain the whole process in simple words?

Do I need to associate smart account to umbrella account?

regards

Hello,

You mentioned that you have the "SD-WAN Umbrella Provision Cloud Essentials" license. Here’s what that means and what else you might need:

SD-WAN Umbrella Provision Cloud Essentials: This license gives you basic umbrella web security at the branch level. With this, the SD-WAN edge devices can route traffic to Umbrella, which will provide web filtering and DNS security. This should be sufficient for basic Umbrella web security features, such as blocking malicious domains, phishing protection, and web filtering.

Does this license cover everything for basic Umbrella web security? Yes, the Cloud Essentials license typically covers basic web security for your branches. It gives you access to Umbrella’s core security features, including DNS-layer protection, web filtering, and more.

Do you need something else? If you’re looking for more advanced Umbrella features (e.g., advanced threat protection, secure network performance, or cloud-delivered firewall capabilities), you might need to look into upgrading your license to something like the Umbrella Insights or Umbrella Platform licenses, which offer more advanced features. But for basic web security, the Cloud Essentials license should be enough.

Do You Need to Associate Your Smart Account to Umbrella?
Yes, in most Cisco environments, you'll need to link your Smart Account to the Umbrella account to manage licenses, deployments, and settings.

Your Smart Account is the central place where you manage Cisco licenses, devices, and services. If you don’t have one yet, you will need to create it on the Cisco portal. In the Umbrella dashboard, you can link your Smart Account to thetollroads Umbrella. This is typically done during setup to ensure your licenses are correctly applied to the right account and that the devices are properly associated. Once everything is linked, you'll configure the SD-WAN devices to point to Umbrella for security services. The SD-WAN devices will automatically retrieve the Umbrella settings and apply them to branch traffic.

Best Regard,

Vixe

Thank you so much for this explanation. I just can't find where to link smart account to umbrella. I send an email to umbrella support.

this is exactly what I need, I just need to get my licenses working.
