All the knowledge of these four experts at your disposal!

Cisco Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) provides a highly scalable, resilient, and secure network infrastructure. With advanced security features built into the solution, automation, centralized management, and monitoring, Cisco SD-WAN enables you to control your network through a single dashboard, reduce operating costs, and ensure the best possible experience for your users in local applications or on the cloud.

In this event, the experts will help you understand how Cisco SD-WAN is designed and its main benefits.
They will explore everything from the basic solution design, which license to choose, or which router to select, to overall design and deployment best practices. vManage allows you to configure devices, templates, security / control policies and much more... What if, for some reason, vManage fails? We will help you master an understanding of the policy framework and common troubleshooting tools and learn from programmatic methods to create backups in the SD-WAN environment.

This event is for Cisco SD-WAN beginners and advanced professionals.

Thanks to the experts in advance.

1. Does SD-WAN adjust traffic based on for example SR-TE, or routing, or application?
2. Could vEdge or cPE traverse harsher network environment, such as multiple NAT, 4G
3. Will there be a Lite version of SD-WAN in the future for trial or testing?

Note: This question is the translation of a post originally created in Chinese by QianXiao87346.  It was translated by the Cisco Community to share the query and its solution in different languages.

1. First thing to understand is that, in Cisco SD-WAN, routers will establish BFD sessions over the IPsec data transport tunnels. BFD will be used not only for link failure detection but also to probe and monitor network characteristics such as loss, latency and jitter on the tunnels. Right away, Cisco SD-WAN already have performance SLA information about every transport available on your WAN Edges.

So, for application-based routing, there is a key feature called Application-Aware Routing (AAR) policies. AAR allows us to define SLAs for business-critical applications and it will take care of probing the network and path characteristics to dynamically re-route the application traffic, in real-time, on the WAN transport links that meets the specified application SLA requirements.

Take a look at this document for more information:
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/solutions/CVD/SDWAN/cisco-sdwan-application-aware-routing-deploy-guide.html

2. Yes, as long as there is IP connectivity the IPsec tunnels should be established without issues.

3. For labs and testing, please take a look at the following links:
Cisco DevNet SD-WAN Sandboxes
https://developer.cisco.com/sdwan/sandbox

Cisco dCloud
https://dcloud.cisco.com
*Partner-level access might be needed

Hope this helps.
Best regards.

Thanks for the event.

Compared with other vendors, what are the advantages of Cisco SD-WAN? Any suggestion for Small and medium-sized enterprises when choose SD-WAN solution among various SD-WAN vendors?

Hi Yanil,

Cisco has a lot of advantages compared to other vendors.  I suggest you look at the following link for the main benefits: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/solutions/enterprise-networks/sd-wan/benefits.html

Regarding your second question, I suggest you speak directly with your Cisco Sales Representative, they will be more incline to help you size the right solution and platform for you.

Thanks,

Danny

Hello,

Our company first purchased about 50 vEdge 1000 devices as they were rated 1Gb, after deployment of one quarter of them Cisco rerated them for 100Mb. We have now spent additional money to replace with 2K and 5K devices and are rolling out, now we get word that the vEdge platform is dead and nothing new is coming in the feature set. What is Cisco doing with this product line? How can they treat established customers this way? Is it best to return the product, get our money back and go with some ISR4k routers?

Hello, hope you are fine. I would like to personally follow up on this and know more details to help you, will send you a direct message to move forward. Thank you so much.

Thanks for the event, guys!

Can you tell what is included in the different layers of licensing from Cisco to Cisco SD-WAN?

Regards,

Hi Fernando,

I hope this helps.

Good evening,

What is Cisco vAnalytics for Cisco SD-WAN?

Thanks a lot !

Sandrine

* This is a question posted in French by andrine964. It has been translated by Cisco Community to share the inquiry and its solution in different languages.

Hi Sandrine!

vAnalytics platform calculates application performance with the vQoE value, which is customized for individual applications. This value ranges from zero to ten, with zero being the worst performance and ten being the best. vAnalytics platform calculates vQoE based on latency, loss, and jitter, customizing the calculation for each application.

vAnalytics platform offers insight into planning the WAN and into its operational aspects, from historical performance, to forecasting, to providing recommendations for optimizing the WAN. vAnalytics platform stores months of data, applies machine learning algorithms, and provides unique insights and recommendations. vAnalytics platform offers:

  • Visibility—vAnalytics platform provides visibility into application and network performance based on information collected from your overlay as well as correlated information from other networks. This gives you insight into top to bottom performing applications as well as anomalous applications over a period of time.
  • Forecasting—vAnalytics platform can help you plan for sites that may need additional bandwidth in the next three to six months.
  • What-If Scenarios—What-if scenarios help you identify opportunities for balancing cost, performance, and availability of networks and applications.
  • Recommendations—vAnalytics platform runs machine learning algorithms to identify opportunities to fine tune the WAN. For example, vAnalytics platform can recommend application-aware routing policies based on historical information from your environment. In addition, vAnalytics platform can mine data across a variety of network service providers and recommend network service providers for a specific location.

How to properly sized the cisco sdwan? what are the things to considered.

It starts with what is the network size of the customer.
Based on it, need size the controllers. This is the first step.
Cisco recommends the controller sizing based on the # of devices customer may have.
The server recommendations are provided at:
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/routers/sdwan/release/notes/compatibility-and-server-recommendations/server-requirements.html

thank you for your quick response. How about the WAN Edges? let say i going to SDWAN cloud cisco hosted. how to size the the right Wan edges?

Hi,
When sizing the routers you will always take into account the aggregate bandwidth on every router but this is not the only thing that comes to play. You must consider what other services will be running, what your topology will be like, and so on. This way you will be able to pick up the most effective platform and license for your use case.

Best regards.
