1. First thing to understand is that, in Cisco SD-WAN, routers will establish BFD sessions over the IPsec data transport tunnels. BFD will be used not only for link failure detection but also to probe and monitor network characteristics such as loss, latency and jitter on the tunnels. Right away, Cisco SD-WAN already have performance SLA information about every transport available on your WAN Edges.

So, for application-based routing, there is a key feature called Application-Aware Routing (AAR) policies. AAR allows us to define SLAs for business-critical applications and it will take care of probing the network and path characteristics to dynamically re-route the application traffic, in real-time, on the WAN transport links that meets the specified application SLA requirements.

Hello,

Our company first purchased about 50 vEdge 1000 devices as they were rated 1Gb, after deployment of one quarter of them Cisco rerated them for 100Mb. We have now spent additional money to replace with 2K and 5K devices and are rolling out, now we get word that the vEdge platform is dead and nothing new is coming in the feature set. What is Cisco doing with this product line? How can they treat established customers this way? Is it best to return the product, get our money back and go with some ISR4k routers?

When sizing the routers you will always take into account the aggregate bandwidth on every router but this is not the only thing that comes to play. You must consider what other services will be running, what your topology will be like, and so on. This way you will be able to pick up the most effective platform and license for your use case.
