AVS support on VMware

Hi,

i would like some advice on the recent announcement that vmware will be dropping the 3rd party switch program and removing API's from a certain version

I am confused because vmware say they have never supported AVS but below it states that Cisco does which i understand, with vmware closing the API's and the program wont this mean that cisco wont be able to support AVS regardless once people upgrade to 6.5 update X?

comment from vmware 4/5 days ago

vmware expects to remove the APIs in the next update release after VMware vSphere 6.5 Update 1, as well as future releases of the vSphere platform.

Cisco comment from some time ago

http://blogs.cisco.com/datacenter/cisco-continues-to-support-application-virtual-switch-for-application-centric-infrastructure-in-vsphere-deployments

Some clarity around this would be useful.

Thanks

VMware has chosen to close the 3rd Party Virtual Switch APIs and the corresponding open ecosystem to steer customers to their virtual networking products.  Cisco believes customers deserve better – they deserve choice.  We regret that VMware's decision will impose big operational change for customers with challenging timelines. Cisco is working on hypervisor independent solutions and will provide more details in the near future.

Any update about hypervisor independent solution?

There are going to be two new versions that are hypervisor independent. The ACI (AVS replacement) will come out first then later in 2018 the Nexus 1000v replacement will come. It will create a controller Vm and not depend on the VDS. Contact your local Cisco account team or local VAR for more information.
