Config of CIP disappear after change IOS.

Hi, folks!

We have 7507 with two RSP16 and two CIPs (code cip27-22).

After I change IOS of our 7507, from (RSP-JSV-M) Version 12.1(13)E1 to 123(11)T3, with sh run, we looked that our CIPs disappeared.

The cfg of CIPs are in startup-config.

After the change of IOS and did a reload or after I did turn off an turn on, does not return to running- config. The CIP cfg only return to cfg with the old IOS.

I need to change the IOS because I would like to use GLBP feature.

Exist any document/paper with method to change IOS of 7507 with CIP.

What was my mistake?

thanks,

Renato

Hi Renato,

When you went to IOS 12.3(11)T3, did you also upgrade the CIP microcode to a 28-xx version. If not, this may be the problem. The latest available is 28-20. You can get it here:

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/cip122T

When you FTP it ti flash, it will expandd into the different files. Then you will need to add the following to the config:

microcode CIP flash slot0:cip28-20

microcode reload

Of course, the first statement must match where you put the microcode. Slot0, Slot1, etc...

Best regards,

Jim

Hi,

when you change major ios versions you also need to change the corresponding cip microcode. If you go to 12.3T you need to use cip microcode 28. the current one is cip28-20.

You can download it from cco. Try if this link works for you:

http://www.cisco.com/kobayashi/sw-center/interworks/cip/

the cip will only work if ios and cip microcode match. You need to copy the cip microcode into flash memory on the router and then reference the location and name in a statement similar like this:

microcode CIP flash slot1:cip28-20

microcode reload

show microcode will also show you what the default cip microcode for this release is. You can see with this command what cip release you need. i.e cip 28, cip27...

thanks...

Jim and Matthias, thanks a lot!

That works well!

But, how can I change the microcode of a slavedisk?

I need to put the other RSP in master mode, and after that chage the microcode?

How can I do This?

thanks,

Renato

Renato,

exactly the same way you got it onto the active one.

copy tftp slaveslot0:

substitute slot0: with whatever location you are using. You can do a

dir ?

to see all available devices. From one of my lab routers it looks like this:

powers#dir slavebootflash:

Directory of slavebootflash:/

1 -rw- 5706716 May 9 2002 08:42:28 +02:00 rsp-boot-mz.120-13.S1

2 -rw- 168825 Jun 23 2001 22:04:52 +02:00 runconf

7602176 bytes total (1726376 bytes free)

powers#

you should be able to do the exact same operation on the slave flash devices you can do on the active rsp. Just prefix always the slave with the keyword slve.

i.e

dir slavebootflash:

copy tftp slavebootflash:

...

thanks...

Hi, Matthias!

I did what you tell me.

But now, the router take long time to reboot after reload.

Please see the log attached (sh log, sh version, sh bootvar and sh bootflash).

thanks,

Renato

Hi Renato,

i dont know what causes the router to take 15 minutes to reboot. Under normal conditions you should have the same set of ios images and cip microcodes in the exact same location on both rsp's.

If the behaviour with different ios versions is so radical different than i guess it is time for you to open a case with cisco tac so that the issue can get worked on until a resolution is found.

Based on your initial query you needed to chang the cip microcode to match the ios version you are running. To use the correct cip microcode should not cause any boot delays for the ios version.

thanks...

Matthias
