Converting to SNA over Ethernet

I am not versed in SNA at all, so pardon my ignorance that is sure to show through.

I am currently connected to a remote 390 via an SDLC connection, the line terminates at my site on an IBM 5822-10, which then connects to a Communications Manager (on an old UNIX box) via an RS-232 SDLC connection.

I would like to replace the SDLC part of the connection at my site. I have no control over the Main Frame I am connecting to.

I would like to place a 2600 router between an IBM Comm Server on Linux and the IBM 5822 modem, connected to the modem via an RS-232 cable and the Linux box via the ethernet network.

I am not having much luck deciphering all the data available on SNA traffic, etc.

I believe I am looking for a config for the following scenario, but not sure, please use the description above in case there are discrepancies between the description and the data flow below.

MF->FEP->(sdlc line)->2600 router->Ethernet->linux w/ IBM Comm Srvr

thanks

Hi Christopher

Please, take a look at this document:

"Configuring DLSw Local-Switching from SDLC to Ethernet"

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk331/tk336/technologies_configuration_example09186a00801434cd.shtml

Hope this helps

I know it took a while for me to answer, it took a while to get everything in place. I saw what you were referencing me to earlier but did not think it would work as it is backwards of what I am trying to do.

The AS/400 is on SDLC and the 3174 is locally connected via Ethernet.

Do you know if it will owrk in the scenario, I tried it but could not get connection between IBM CommMgr and the host running in a remote location.

thanks

The basic setup will work. You will have to change the serial config to be sdlc role secondary and will not need the XID command. Make sure you have the MAC address bit-flipped properly.

If you are still having trouble, get the debug llc packet and debug sdlc packet.
