DLSw Gateway?

Being new to the DLSw world I have a question about using a router as a "gateway." I need to get SNA traffic over a WAN through a PIX firewall to a AIX box. There is no router between the PIX and AIX box. Can I hang a router off the back of the PIX and have DLSw go in and SNA come out the same interface? Or must the SNA be unencapsulated across a router? Hope this makes sense.

Hi,

i assume your topology looks similar to this:

aix--ethernet---router1---pix---wan---router2---host

in this example you would have dlsw between router1 and router2.

It would use two local interfaces on router1. however you can use the same interface for ip and llc2 at the same time.

It depends a bit on your real topologie and what type of interfaces your end systems are using. I.e. sdlc versus etherne, tokenring ect..

If you need a more detailed setup and help with bringing it up i would advice to open a case with the tac and work it with them. They can certainly give you examples and also help you with dlsw through a firewall, which is sometimes a bit tricky due to the way dlsw brings up its tcp connection.

thanks...

Matthias
