is there a way i can rename an ethernet port porfile from lets say MgmtUplink to MgmtVMUplink? For that matter, is there a way to rename a vethernet profile?

Currently there is no way to do this you have to create a new Port profile with the new name.

You can however use the command "vmware port-group xxxx" to present an alias name to vcenter.
