Telnet or SNMP to UCS C200

Hello all,

I am trying to set up a UCS C200 server to receive telnet commands over the network. I can SSH but cannot find commands to enable telnet. I have read that telent is "disabled by default" on C200 servers which leads me to believe that telnet can be enabled.  I am curious if telnet requires the use of the Serial Over Lan function or IPMI.

In addition to telnet I am tryin to set the server to receive SNMP commands. It seems to me that this should be a pretty basic function of any networking device.

Information seems to be in short supply for telnet and as far as SNMP is concerned it is non-existent.

If anybody has any help they can provide me I would be most appreciative.

Thanks.

Johann,

Which version of CIMC are you running?

Telnet should be enabled by default.  You should be able to telnet to the CIMC using the CIMC IP address and admin account credentials.   SOL and IPMI are not required for this.

You can access most functions from the CIMC GUI interface including all the SNMP config.   The system is only able to send snmp traps, not receive.  Depending what version of CIMC you're currently running, you can find the user guides here:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/ps10739/products_installation_and_configuration_guides_list.html

Chapter 10 talks about configuring the Communicaitons Services such as SSH/SNMP/IPMI/SOL.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c/sw/gui/config/guide/1.3.1/Cisco_UCS_C-Series_GUI_Configuration_Guide_131_chapter10.html

If you're unable to telnet to your CIMC, ensure you're not traversing a firewall that might be blocking telnet traffic.  As easy test is to try and access it from another device on the same subnet.

Robert

Hi,

I'm not able to set snmp in cisco ucs c220 m3 server.

CIMC2# scope snmp
CIMC2 /snmp # show detail
SNMP Settings:
SNMP Port: 161
System Contact: who@where
System Location: unknown
Access Community String: public
Trap Community String: public
SNMP Community access: full
Enabled: no
Serial Number Enabled: no
CIMC2 /snmp # set enabled yes
CIMC2 /snmp *# commit
CIMC2 /snmp # show detail
SNMP Settings:
SNMP Port: 161
System Contact: who@where
System Location: unknown
Access Community String: public
Trap Community String: public
SNMP Community access: full
Enabled: no
Serial Number Enabled: no
CIMC2 /snmp #

This can happen when the Firmware isn't upgraded correctly.  Can you please try upgrading the CIMC firmware using the Host Update Utility (HUU) to any version higher than what's currently running?

Thanks,

Robert
