UCS Blade Servers

Hi all,

We have a 5108 UCS chassis with 4-B200 M3 servers. Two of them are for VDI, and we are looking to expand. Would there be any problem with adding an M4 into the chassis? Would clustering with vCenter still be fine? I wanted to go with the same M3 model, but was told by my vendor that they are no longer manufacturing new ones.

Thanks in advance.

No problem to add B200-M4 in the same chassis.

However, instead of having one chassis with max 8 blades (B200-M3 and M4), I would propose you buy another chassis, and have e.g. 4 bades in either one. Then you would create a VMware cluster, with e.g. 2 blades in each chassis. This will increase your HA; a single chassis, although 2 IOM, 4 PS has a low but non zero probability of failing.
