Integrated messaging on UC500 is the convergence feature for voicemail and e-mail systems. It allows subscribers to have an integrated view of their e-mails and voice-mail messages from a single e-mail client using IMAP Version 4 rev1.

To enable IMAP integration on the UC500, follow these steps:

1. Launch CCA and navigate to the "Applications" tab:

2. Enable "Integrated Messaging" under "Applications Control"

3. Click "Apply" and then "OK".

This is all you need on the UC500 side. Now you will need to configure your e-mail client:

1.    The IMAP client can be any IMAP supported email applications such as MS Outlook, MS Outlook Express, or Lotus Note.

2.    Generally speaking, though each IMAP mail client is different, the key is to add a new account for the UC500 user and get messages from CUE, which serves as an e-mail server.  Note that the login and password of the new account must match those set up in CCA for each user (under Configure > Voice > Users).

3.    CUE is an IMAP mailer server.  So in the mail client, select IMAP.  The IP address of the mailer server is CUE’s IP address, typically 10.1.10.1

Editing and existing Exchange profile on MS Outlook:

a.    If your Outlook is running on your laptop, close Outlook.

b.    On your laptop, go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Mail.  A new window pops up.

c.    In this new window, press “Show Profiles…”

d.    Another window called “Mail” comes up.  Select the existing profile and then click on Properties .

e.    The “Mail Setup” window pops up.  In the window, click on “Email Accounts.”  Click on "New".

f.    Select "Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP or HTTP" option.  Click Next.

g.    In the next window, check the "Manually configure server settings or additional server types". Click "Next".

h.    Select the "Internet E-mail" option and click "Next".

i.    For e-mail address, enter the UC500 (CUE) user login and IP address (typically 10.1.10.1). For example userone@10.1.10.1

j.    For Logon Information, the name and password should match those set up with CCA.

k.    For Server Information, for Incoming mail server (IMAP), enter CUE’s IP address (typically 10.1.10.1).

l.    For Outgoing mail server, enter a a dummy IP.  If an SMTP server is available, the domain name of the SMTP server should be entered.

m.    Click Next and Finish to complete the set up of the Wizard.

n.    Outlook is now ready to receive messages from CUE.

Adding a new profile on MS Outlook:

Note: This profile will not change your existing corporate Mail profile. You will have to maintain two profiles when enabling IMAP.

a.    If your Outlook is running on your laptop, close Outlook.

b.    On your laptop, go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Mail.  A new window pops up.

c.    In this new window, press “Show Profiles…”

d.    Another window called “Mail” comes up.  Click on the Add button to add a new profile.  Name this profile "cueimap" for example.

e.    The “Email Accounts” wizard window pops up.  In the window, click on “Add a new email account.”  Click Next.

f.    For Server Type, select IMAP.  Click Next.

g.    In the next window of “E-mail Accounts”, enter the user name (any name is fine).

h.    For e-mail address, enter the UC500 (CUE) user login and IP address (typically 10.1.10.1). For example userone@10.1.10.1

i.    For Logon Information, the name and password should match those set up with CCA.

j.    For Server Information, for Incoming mail server (IMAP), enter CUE’s IP address (typically 10.1.10.1).

k.    For Outgoing mail server, enter a a dummy IP.  If an SMTP server is available, the domain name of the SMTP server should be entered.

l.    Click Next and Finish to complete the set up of the Wizard.

m.    Now go back to the “Mail” window.  It should show the profile that you have just added. Select “Prompt for a profile to be used” and click OK.  Now invoke Outlook.

n.    When Outlook comes up, it asks for the profile.  Select the profile.

o.    If Outlook asks “Another account is detected with Outlook Express.  Do you want to import it?”, select "No".

p.    Outlook is now ready to receive messages from CUE.

Adding a new account on MS Outlook Express:

Some laptops may have MS Outlook Express installed.  You can use the MS Outlook Express also.


a.    Invoke MS Outlook Express.  (Outlook Express may be hidden in your laptop.  To install Outlook Express, go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.  In the new window click on Add/Remove Windows components.  Yet another new window comes up.  See if Outlook Express is available.  If so, put a check mark on Outlook Express and click Next.  Outlook Express will be installed on your laptop.)


b.    In Outlook Express, in the Folders column, highlight Local Folder.  Then on the Tool bar at the top of the window, go to Tools > Accounts.

c.    In the new “Internet Accounts” pop-up window, click “Add > Mail”.

d.    For Display name, enter the CUE user login (e.g. userone).  Click Next.

e.    For email address, enter the UC500 (CUE) user login and  IP address (typically 10.1.10.1). For example userone@10.1.10.1).  Click Next.  (If DNS and SMTP servers have been set up, domain name can be used instead of IP address.)

f.    In the next window, for My Incoming Mail Server, select IMAP.


g.    For Incoming Mail (IMAP) server, enter CUE’s IP address (eg. 10.1.10.1)

h.    For Outgoing mail server, enter a dummy address (eg. 1.1.1.1) here.  Click Next.  (If an SMTP server is available, the domain name of the SMTP server can be used.)

i.    In the next window, for Account name, enter the user login configured  in CCA (ie. userone) and the corresponding password.  Click Next and Finish.


Retrieving Messages using the IMAP Email Client

New voice messages should show up in the mail client.  The actual voice message is attached with each e-mail:

You can listen to all the messages.  Once all messages are read,  the MWI light on the phone should turn off. You can also mark one message in the mail client as Unread.  In that case, the MWI light on the phone will be turned back on. Deleted messages in Outlook are still maintained in CUE, until they are purged by the user in CUE (using the TUI or Telephone User Interface).

IMPORTANT: If you keep getting an Outlook authentication prompt, but the system never allows the authentication, connect to CUE via the CLI and add the command  “groupname IMAPgrp privilege vm-imap” (where IMAPgrp was created by the CCA after enabling IMAP in the Applications Control) after following all the other instructions in this document.
