Hello Ryan,

My name is Kristian and I am one of the engineers at Cisco Small Business.

Can you please confirm the SFP modules that you use on both switches?

What fiber cable are you using - SM or MM?

Have you tried to run an Optical Module test on both switches?

Regards,
Kris

hallo ktonev,

thank you for your reply. It works now. But weird thing is, sg500 does not need to put no switchport command while sg550xg is needed. When i do this it works. Beside this, can i use obb port of sg550xg switch for internet access (i.e this 1gb port can used to connect firewall directly?)? I can not rip routing on this port---let me know your suggestion...thanks

Hello Ryan,

Happy to hear that you have managed to resolve your issue!

The OBB (Out of Band) port is designed to be used for management purposes only and has certain restrictions as you have found. With that in mind I would personally not recommend using it as a main Internet connection and as you said you will not be able to enable RIP routing on this port.

However it is useful if you would like to use this as a separate means of access to this switch for management purposes.

Hope this helps!

Kris
