Hi Team,

Can someone pls help with an SNTC Serial Number query recently received; below

I can't see anything about this level of detail in the User guides.

*************************

Noticed from Custom Inventory Report there are 3 fields for Serial number
Serial Number – The serial number for the device
Parent Serial Number – Serial number of the device's parent (Chassis) - if applicable.
Collected Serial Number– but there is no info on this, please advise?

Also advise which would be the most appropriate value that we should be checking for the devices.

Hi, Stewart.

SNMP may return a SN that turns out (after back-end validation) to NOT be the actual chassis SN (it may have been a mid-plane, or other sub-component).

The CSPC retains the original / captured SN as 'Collected...', but stores the validated value as 'Serial Number.  This approach may be, in part, because until (or if) a firmware / EEPROM flash update is provided, any SNMP poller will retrieve the same 'Collected SN' value.

Hope that helps.
