Device Discovery "GenericNetworkDevices"

After doing an inventory of our network only 6 devices are able to be managed everything was put in as a "GenericNetworkDevices" or "Unreachable Nodes" group.

During the discovery I can see that it is accepting the community strings, and SSH credentials. So am not sure why they are showing up that way, I also used the SNTC PID Checker to verify that the gear is supported which it is.

All of the equipment is using the same string on the same network, no security is blocking it as it is working with other monitoring software.

Thanks in advanced.

Hello Matthew,

If you perform a Static IP discovery on the CSPC, every IP address will become managed by the Collector.  In this case it sounds like it may have managed your devices, but a lot of them were still in an unreachable status (non-snmp reachable) so they were placed into the Unreachable Node group and GenericNetworkDevice Group.

There could be a few reasons why SNMP was unsuccessful on the devices.  Since you mentioned you're using a common SNMP string, do you know if the devices have in place an ACL to allow other monitoring tools to collect SNMP data?

Thank you,

Jarrett
