Hi everybody
I need to enable the NPIV on a Nexus 5000, and I found how to do it in the following link,
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/configuration/guide/cli/CLIConfigurationGuide/npv.html
To enable NPV, perform this task:

|
|
---|---|---|
Enables NPV mode. The switch reboots, and it comes back up in NPV mode. |
But I need to know about the reboot. It will reboot inmediatly after enabling the NPIV or I could reboot the switch when I desirre?
best Regards

Hi Gonzalo
The difference between NPV and NPIV can be found here:
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/storage-networking/mds-9000-series-multilayer-switches/200127-N-Port-Identifier-Virtualization-NPIV.html
NPIV is a feature, and doesn't require a reboot; enabling it is non disruptive !
NPV requires a reboot, all the existing configuration is gone !

Yes, and remember to backup your config. Because sometimes it will erase half of your configuration.
Also if you have to assign some of the unified ports as FC your also have to reboot the switch unless you are using a GEM they you can restart that module instead of the entire switch. You would use the reload slot X command.
