Hi everybody,
I need to connect a SG350X Switch as a backup switch of a SG550X switch, and I want to know if it is possible??
for redundancy I need my switch to have a second one with the same configuration and I want to link them so that the second will take and directly when the first fail.
Is it possible or not??

Hi there,
If you are thinking about stacking the two switches and using cross-chassis etherchannel, then yes the SG350X does support this. This means a host would need to have a pair of bonded interfaces, in the event of one of the switches failing the host would still have connectivity. You would need to ensure that the remaining switch still had an uplink back to the core.
Any single attached hosts would need to be re-patched into the active switch.
If you are using the SG350X as a router, and are considering First Hop Redundancy Protocols, like HSRP, then the SG350X does not support this.
cheers,
Seb.

In what way do you want it as a backup? As a hot-standby?
Can you copy the config from one to the other? Possibly....depending on what you have configured on the SG550X. For example the SG550X supports dynamic routing whereas the SG350X only supports static. Therefore you could not confidently interchange them without checking the routing tables.

Yes , As a hot-standby.
To the question Can you copy the config from one to the other? : I've never tried yet. This is why I need to know if it is possible or not.

In which ensure they are running the same version of code. The command interpreter is the same on both models. Just beware of features you may have configured on the SG550X may not be supported on the SG350X. Certainly SG350X --> SG550X should work.

Hi,
SG350 and SG550 both switches and hardware are different. As SG350 is lower level switch compare to the SG550 then keep in mind that you can the configuration from SG350 to the SG550. But if you trying to use as SG550 to SG550 then there is no guaranteed because many of features will not support the SG350 as VRRP, Dynamic Routing, etc.
I want to know some more details like Where and how will you use as a backup switch? Is it possible to share your network diagram? I am thinking if you are using SG550 in any routing domain then we will try it.
