How to properly replace a SG550XG-8F8T 16-Port 10G Switch in stack

Hello and good day,

2x SG550XG-8F8T units are currently configured in a Native Stack. To stack units, we have used 2x 10Gigabit Copper ports as stack ports.

Switch 1 in the stack is manually assigned unique unit ID 1.

Switch 2 in the stack is manually assigned unique unit ID 2.

Unit 1 unexpectedly restarts itself, so a new replacement device has arrived from Cisco Small Business TAC Support.

Before we go ahead and replace Unit ID 1 in the stack, is there a recommended procedure ?

My concern is that under normal conditions the device in the stack we need to replace is the master unit, while Unit 2 (which is functioning properly) is the backup unit.

My understanding is that, based on the Master Selection Process, after replacing unit ID 1 the master unit will be Unit ID 2 in the stack since at the specific point in time Unit ID 2 up-time, which is measured in time segments of 10 minutes, will have the higher number of segments. As a result, Unit ID 2 will push out the existing configuration to the newly added Unit ID 1.

Is my understanding correct ?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Massimiliano Rizzi
