Is the SF100D-08P unmanaged POE switch a discontinued model? If so, is there a comparable replacement? I'm looking for a reasonably priced switch to power WAP access points.

Hi Terp, I don't know if you're still working with VLANs or Guest SSID or not, but an unmanaged switch can't recognize a VLAN tag so any additional SSID would get an IP address to whichever subnet a port is associated to.

If you have VLANs and Guest SSIDs, Id recommend you get a SRW208P-K9-NA (sf300). They should run around $200-300.

If you're looking for a switch that is only a piece of hardware that supports POE SF100D-08P is a desktop switch.

Thanks Tom. My plan was to come off the RV180 into an unmanaged POE switch to 1) segregate the public wifi access points to a single port on the RV and 2) power the WAP321s. Going with a POE switch seems to be more cost effective than injectors once you get to the third WAP.

So I would be going RV180 -----> Unmanaged POE switch ----> WAP321

Given that, what kind of POE device would you recommend?

Terp, the only drawback, the guest network, if the AP connecting to the unmanaged switch will only be able to be a part of 1 subnet.

If your private network is 192.168.1.100 and your guest is 192.168.2.100 the AP will only be a member of one or the other but not both. There wouldn't really be a way to separate the LAN traffic which would defeat the purpose of the guest network. The RV180 and WAP321 both support VLAN. The unmanaged switch can't recognize the VLAN ID and therefore can't separate traffic.

So in practical nature a managed switch should be deployed.

RV180 -> SF300-8P -> AP

All of those devices support 802.1 VLAN and will be able to separate traffic in just about every way you want.

Thanks. I think I understand. Can the WAP321 support a "public" and a "private" SSID? My initial plan was to dedicate the WAP321s to the public subnet only. I would like to be abel to configure them via a PC on the private subnet. I was going to get a single WAP121 for the private side. However, if I can provide both private and public wifi via a single WAP321, I'd probably go that route. Thoughts

Edit: I cannot find a POE version of the SF-300-08.

Yes, can service both public and priate SSID, using 1 wire and VLAN with different network IP and also manage the AP and switch from the private network.
