RV320 & SG300-52P Configuration

Hi,

I have some questions regarding the configuration of these two devices. The specifics;

SG300-52P - version 1.4.7.6

RV320 - version v1.3.2.02 (2016-09-23, 15:17:06)

The RV320 is configured as a gateway, ipv4 only, connected to a cable modem.

The SG300 acts as a DHCP server.

The RV320 is configured to DHCP Relay to the SG300

The SG300 has a single network pool defined.

    1. Option 3 is set to the IP of  RV320. (192.168.1.1)
    2. Option 6 is set to the IP of RV320. (192.168.1.1)

On the SG300 I have also enabled DNS,

    1. In DNS server table I have added a few public DNS entries, such 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4
    2. For preference 1, I added the RV320. (the RV320 is configured to use DNS entries from ISP)

When I configure the network pool to provide the IP of the SG300 (192.168.1.14) in Option 6, all network resolutions fail.

I am trying to make the SG300 the DNS server of the network as I have a list of static hosts within the network, so the thinking is that, the SG300 will check

  1. its static hosts,
  2. then check the dynamic hosts,
  3. then go to the gateway for any public names, eg. microsoft.com
  4. the gateway will then use the dns entries from the ISP.

However, this does not seem to be working, or my thinking about it is incorrect.

Is there a way to achieve what is described above?

Additionaly, I also noticed that on the SG300 all dynamically assigned IP address, for the 'MAC Address/Client Identifier', its always displays the 'MAC Address' and never the 'Client Identifer', why is that?

This is different from RV320 as it would display the 'Client Identifer' when it was the DHCP server.

Thanks for your assistance with this.

Chris.
