I had my it-guy try to set up my switch. He was a little confused about the static ip. Does this switch also act as a router or do we need a seperate router for this application.

The SFE2000 is a Layer 3 switch, so is is capable of acting as basic router. However, the default configuration is generally Layer 2 so you'll have to connect to the switch with a console cable and change the mode to Layer 3 in order to enable routing. Keep in mind that when you switch modes, the configuration files are erased (I believe that to be true).

Hi all,
Best to set the switch in layer 3 mode via the console or telnet interface first, as Jon is correct the switch will reset to a default configeration with the stacking interface enabled and Layer 3 switching enabled.
You will note that the unit might also show that it's in stacking mode. You may wish to disable that functionality, if you only have one SFE2000.
