SG200-08 and SG200-08P fail to hold or update Date/Time

(New installation for a UC320 setup.)

I've got both an SG200-08 and SG200-08P that are failing to maintain date/time when set with "Use Local Settings".  Every restart/powercycle causes them to reset to Dec 31 1969.  Other settings save fine.

PID VID:  SLM2008T V01 / SLM2008PT

Boot Version:  D.8.3.1

Firmware Version: 1.0.0.16

I first tried to set time via SNTP Unicast using a variety of public time server addresses including the 3 hard coded to the SG200-08 firmware:

  1. time-a.timefreq.bldrdoc.gov
  2. time-b.timefreq.bldrdoc.gov
  3. time-c.timefreq.bldrdoc.gov

Sadly though it always just shows  "Active Server  Server Host Address: 0.0.0.0"  and continues having 12/31/1969 as the date.  Both after a config save and a reboot.

I can ping the NTP servers just fine from the switches either by IP or by hostname.

At this point I've decided that I must be missing something simple. At least I hope so... otherwise it's a firmware bug which means waiting for a fix.

EDIT:  Other devices behind the same firewall/gateway (RVS4000) are updating NTP

Have you been able to resolve this issue? I just got a SG 200-08 and have exact same issue.  Setting time manually and saving configuration does not stick after reboot.  Date goes to 12/31/1969 after reboot.  Firmware 1.0.1.

I am going to open a support call with Cisco but hoping there is a simple explaination...

Marco.

Do not know if you already figured this out. Just wanted to share the solution:

As you can see there are hostnames configured in the SNTP section.  When DNS is set up correctly, the NTP-server address can be looked up  and hence, your date & time is synchronized. Also enable polling to activate Synchronization.

To set up Domain Name Server entries you can do the following:

  • Go to IP Configuration-> Domain Name System->DNS-Servers;
  • Add the DNS-server ip-addresses of your ISP or an public DNS-server you can use like 8.8.8.8 (More public DNS servers can be found here);
  • Click on host mapping to see if the DNS responds to the requests. IP Configuration-> Domain Name System->Host Mapping.

Go to Administration > Time Settings > SNTP Setting and select (check mark) each one of the SNTP servers entries (one at a time), click on <Edit> and put the check mark to <Enable> Polling Mode. Save. Do it for each SNTP server. That's it.
