i attempted to update my switch to the newer boot code and firmware version, but the device is now in an infinite reboot loop, is unresponsive to the serial console connection, and will not reset to factory image when i press and hold the reset button.

how can i get my switch back?

Hi Brendan,

without any access to the switch there is not much you can do. Please ensure that when testing switch is not connected to the network in case the cause of the problem is related to the network traffic.

You should be able to get console connection if:

1. speed is set to 115200

2. using the serial cable which was in the package

the included serial cable was the answer.

i know IOS class devices use rollover cables.  what is specific to the serial cable inlcuded with these devices?  i want at least one more of them, and will have to label the one i have...

seems i am not out of the woods just yet...

Hi Brendan,

For the cable it is RSR232 (DB9-DB9) null modem (not straight through).

for the fatal error you may try to access boot menu and perform firmware upload. But maybe it would be better idea to open support ticket with Small Business team:
