SR2024CT-NA SG 102-24 fibre connectivity issue

Hi,

Got a SR2024CT-NA SG 102-24 smb switch with fibre sfp running to an old 3com switch.  It is supposed to actually replace a 3com on the source side.  There is connectivity but they say its very poor and clients from the 3 com end on the other end can't run client applications properly etc.  This switch is a 22 port gigabit switch with 48 gbps capacity.  The network is a flat network with a about 3-4 application servers.  This switch is like a core you can say,  They say it may not be able to handle the throughput but that doesn't make sense to me.  When the switch is replaced back with the older 3com traffic passes well,  like it should.  I haven't been to site,  I will go check it tomorrow and see exactly what the symptoms are, my first thing may be to replace the old 3com on the other end with another Cisco smb switch so source switch and firmware are related.  I can't see how it could be the switch.  Anyone experienced similar or have any suggetions?  I check it soon and update

Hi

First thing I think of is the fiber link.

I am wondering where it goes or connects to?

What type of SFP are you using  in my switch ?

What type of fiber cable are you using, 9um, 50um or 62.5um ?

How long is the fiber cable and how many patches are in the cable ?

Throughput within the switch should be fast, it's been a while since we produced a blocking switch fabric. The switching fabric as you also alluded to is non blocking within the switch.

Next I'm thinking all the IP hosts autonegotiate ethernet speed and duplex.

Is there a loop, a wireshark capture on a port could indicate if a broadcast storm is occuring.

Still a lot we don't know about what is heppening , but also looking forward to other folks input that may be useful for your problem determination.

regards Dave
