Hi there,
i have a question about the proper method to setup up vlan(s) on a sg200 switch with a sv220w router.
Should i setup the vlan on the router or the switch? I have small office setup, i need atleast 2 vlans to separate the networks. i want both to have internet access but be completely isolated from each other.
If anyone can help with setup configuration I would greatly appreciate it

Dear Roy,
Thank you for contacting Cisco Small Business Support Community.
My advice is to configure the VLAN’s on the switch, please refer to the below link for instructions:
http://sbkb.cisco.com/CiscoSB/Loginr.aspx?login=1&pid=2&app=search&vw=1&articleid=80
You can also go the SG200 admin guide, page 104, for a more detailed information on the different configuration options and scenarios:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/csbss/sg200/administration_guide/78-19562.pdf
The RV220 router you must configure the trunk port as describes the below document starting in page 39;
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/csbr/rv220w/administration/guide/rv220w_admin_v1.0.1.0.pdf
I hope you find the documents helpful and please do not hesitate to reach us back if there is any further assistance we may help you with.
Kind regards,

hi..thank you for the reply.. i noticed that the documention that you linked is a bit dated, as newer firmware do not support all the features listed in the admin guide. for example, the latest firmware for the RV220w no longer has the VLAN to port settings. so how do i configure the router for trunk mode? there are options for 'inter-vlan routing' and to have a particular port in either, 'tagged', 'untagged' or 'excluded'. just wondering if you can provide a bit more detail.
thank you

Dear Roy,
I am sorry about the outdated document, I already reported the VLAN configuration section as not accurate as of the latest firmware release v1.0.4.17.
I suggest you to create the VLAN's in the RV220W router from the LAN>VLAN Membership page, uncheck the "Inter VLAN routing" if I correctly undrestand you want the two VLANs isolated from each other, and set them as 'tagged" since all data going into and out a trunk port must be tagged where untagged data coming into the port is not forwarded.
Let's say for example you choose Port1 to be the trunk port, then you leave the default VLAN1 as "untagged" and your new VLAN2 and VLAN3 as tagged under Port1.
Please let me know if anything comes up and/or if there is any further assistance I may help you with.
Best regards,

Okay... this is what i have so far.
RV220W - port 2 = vlan1 U, Vlan2, 3, 4 T
the SG200 is setup as the pic below. port 25 is the connection to the router. would you be able to tell me is this is setup properly?
Thank you
Roy
