Hi everyone. I'm not a Network guy by trade but I do enjoy over complicating things on my home network as it keeps me out of the bar. I am interested in buying a refurbed WS-3850 (?) from ebay to "simplify" things and get rid of some consumer grade switches.
I currently have 2Gb/s up/down ATT Fiber optic internet, an HP DL380G9 with a 10G NIC, 3 desktop PC's with 2.5G NICs, a Synology with 1G NIC, 16 POE cameras all behind a whitebox PC (with a 2.5G NIC) running PfSense. My switches are unmanaged consumer grade (Amazon/Microcenter) with 10G, 2.5G, two of which are 1G POE.
I'd like to future proof my network and replace all those consumer grade switches with a single WS3850 but I'm over my head with all the model numbers and options. I *think* I need a 48 port switch in order to use the 12x10G ethernet SFP's and I believe the remaining ports are multi-gig 1,2.and 5G. I'm also unfamiliar with the Cisco refurb market and whether or not I need any licenses or management software if I do purchase from the gray market. Any hints or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
